PROSPECTIVE MAKERS
INTERESTED IN SELLING YOUR WORK AT GOOD DAY SHOP?
We’d love to see what you’re making!
First of all, am I eligible to submit my work?
Good Day Shop carries work from Humboldt County independent makers. We consider you an independent maker if you’re working solo or with a team of no more than four individuals. We consider you a local if you spend at least eight months of your year in Humboldt.
I’m a Humboldt County independent maker! What should I know before I apply?
The form linked below is the only way to submit your work for consideration. (If you don’t own or have access to a personal computer, remember our fantastic public libraries have Internet-connected computers dedicated for your usage!)
Please prepare five to ten* small but reasonably high resolution JPEG examples of work you’re hoping to sell at Good Day Shop, & be prepared to provide information about materials used, sizes (in inches), & approximate prices of work you’re submitting. If you don’t include this information in your application, the first email response you receive will have to ask these same questions.
Anticipate that 60% of the money from sales will go to you, & 40% will go toward the shop’s overhead. Not all, but most makers decide to add a bit to their usual direct-to-customers prices to account for the contribution to keeping the shop open. Pricing is completely up to you, but Marta is available to consult if you feel like you need help deciding how to price your goods. Sales are reconciled at the end of each month, & makers can come collect their checks at their convenience any time after the 1st of the month during the shop’s open hours.
Understand that while we strive to welcome as many makers as we can, we are not able to approve all applications, but no matter what, we will respond to your submission via email with a clear & kind explanation of why we are or are not prepared to move forward in partnering with you. In some cases, we will want to accept your work but will have to let you know we don’t currently have space to accommodate it, in which case we will suggest a future date when we strongly encourage you to re-apply.
Anticipate that all communications regarding your application will occur via email, & please allow up to seven days for email responses.
Note you will retain full ownership of your images, & we will never use or redistribute them in any way for any reason.
*The form allows five images, & you’re welcome to submit two consecutive forms if you feel you need ten images to represent your work.
I have one more question before I apply: is there anything in particular you’re looking for?
Fantastic question. Absolutely yes — there are specific categories of items we are actively hoping will find their way to us. We’ll update this wishlist as frequently as we can. As of March 26th, 2025, we are eagerly seeking:
Stained glass art! Especially if it can hang in a window &/or if it serves a practical function
Boxed card/postcard sets, especially Humboldt themed, & especially smaller than 5” x 7” (we have a lot of large cards but not many smaller options)
Small end tables, benches, & other smallish pieces of furniture from woodworkers
Other small items from woodworkers — wall-mounted key hooks, shelves, mail sorters, etc.
Ceramic mugs, especially those priced under $40
Ceramic plates & bowls, especially those priced under $50, & large serving bowls & trays
Ceramic trinket dishes of all varieties & prices
Ceramic planters of all varieties & prices
Tote bags! (Durable quality bags, not flimsy thin ones)
Handmade clothing of most any variety as long as it can hang easily on a standard hanger (but not tie-dyed or crocheted clothing)
Knit or quilted blankets in nearly any size
Table runners, tablecloths, placemats, cloth napkins, altar cloths, bedspreads
Naturally dyed scarves/bandanas
Rings from silversmiths! Necklaces from silversmiths
Earrings only if they differ considerably from the many, many, many styles we already have in stock
Smaller paintings, especially those priced under $150
Smaller photo prints, especially those priced under $50
Personal care products! Body & hair oils, lotions & cremes, soaps, deodorants, lip balms, etc. Please note that presentation is very important to us for these items — we are looking for a professional aesthetic with quality labels clearly listing all ingredients, so on & so forth.
UV-resistant, weatherproof vinyl stickers
Hats (other than bucket hats — we already have someone making those)
Additionally, if you have not been into the shop recently, we absolutely encourage you to come take a look around before you decide what you’d like to submit from your own body of work. Inventory does vary from week to week depending on what’s coming in & what’s selling, so a sure way to get a better sense of the big picture & how your work might fit into it is to come see with your own eyes!
Finally, please note that if we are seeking your category of item, we still can’t guarantee we will be able to approve your application. Including items from our wishlist will certainly increase your chances of acceptance, but we can’t promise a ‘yes’ before we’ve got all the information & have had time to consider. Thank you so much for understanding!
